Tantallon Castle
Open all year this 14th century castle is situated on the sea cliffs overlooking the Firth of Forth and the Bass Rock. Inhabited by the Douglas family, one of the most powerful baronial families in Scotland, this early example of defence capabilities is not to be missed.
For over three centuries the Castle stood as a noble fort and survived three sieges. Highlights of Tantallon Castle are; its stunning cliff top location with amazing views across the Firth and Forth and the Bass Rock; the gun replica in the East Tower, which is an exact copy of the sort of gun that would have been used to defend the castle; the stone curtain wall which is possibly the best 14th century architecture in Scotland; and the wildlife of rare fauna and flora that are abundant in the castle grounds.
